Durability

Most roofing materials have two lives:

  • Functional Life
  • Aesthetic Life

The Functional Life of most conventional residential roofs is 15 or so years. Homeowners who intend to stay in their home for ten or more years need to save for maintenance and eventual replacement costs with these roofs.

As far as the Aesthetic Life of a roof, many roofs have streaks and stains after just a few years of exposure to the weather, making them look old and often detracting from the home’s curb appeal and value. Oftentimes the unsightly streaks start on the north side of a home, just like moss on a tree. But, over time, they spread to the other sides of the home as well. Ever wonder what those streaks and stains are? They are actually a form of algae called Gleocapsa Magma. Once this algae gains a foothold to your roof, there’s no stopping it. It just keeps growing and spreading in all of its ugly glory.

A quality metal roof offers the best of both worlds – a long-term Functional Life combines with resistance to aging and other things that create a limited Aesthetic Life.
